How to Get Out of Your Own Way on the Road to Success

At one time or another, most of us look in the mirror and admit that we hold the keys to our destiny. While it is much easier to make excuses or place the blame squarely on the shoulders of someone else, we know that we are ultimately capable of taking steps that move us forward or in some cases, hold us back.

If you are smart, driven and goal-oriented (and I know you are), you’ve probably managed to sabotage yourself at one point or another as you navigate the highways and by-ways of success.

Want to increase your possibilities tenfold? Ready to get out of your own way as you blaze a path towards a more inspiring future? Follow these tips and witness how you can work smarter in the days ahead:

1) Dream big and share your vision.

Nothing limits your potential more than a wimpy, anemic outlook. Imagine your best, boldest outcome; then make it even better and tell someone you trust about it. Accountability is a powerful, effective weapon to keep in your arsenal. By allowing your mind to run wild with what could be, you jumpstart your creative juices and allow yourself to embrace the ‘what if’ with enthusiasm instead of trepidation. Furthermore, sharing your vision will make your pursuit even more tangible and provide a safe space to talk about your journey. How can you make your dreams more expansive?

2) Ask for (and accept) help.

You are capable of doing a lot of things, but trust and believe that you don’t always have to fly solo. Use your energy and talent in your zone of genius, but choose to engage others to assist when you need support. There are no awards for long-suffering martyrs, so save yourself from the drudgery. Opt for efficiency over ego; it isn’t a shortcut and it doesn’t mean that you aren’t worthy of achieving your goals. Who could help you right now?

3) Act in the absence of perfection.

Research and preparation are beautiful things, but a quest for perfection can result in paralysis. Action, imperfect or otherwise, brings clarity. Make the decision to do something that builds momentum in support of your goals, even if you don’t think that you are 110% sure of how things will go. What do you need to do right now?

Apply these strategies to reduce internal pressure and make genuine progress in the areas that matter the most.
